The primary objective of this project was to design a postcard that captures the essence of the client’s local area and would be available for purchase at the local gift shop. The client provided photographs featuring key landmarks and requested that all of them be incorporated into a single cohesive illustration. Additionally, they wanted the postcard to convey a sense of tranquility and remoteness while also enticing others to visit the village.
Drawing inspiration from these requirements, I applied the rule of thirds to create a visually balanced and naturally appealing composition. To capture attention and evoke positive memories, I strategically placed the lake sign on the left side of the postcard. I also included ducks and seagulls as symbols of the area’s natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The village name is rendered in a sans-serif handwritten font, chosen to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Additionally, I carefully selected a harmonious color palette to reinforce the feeling of serenity throughout the illustration.
The goal of creating a captivating postcard that immediately appeals to consumers—whether as a gift or souvenir—has been successfully achieved. The final design effectively showcases the village’s charm, serving as both a keepsake and an invitation for potential visitors to explore the area.
